we can always do more and we are constantly working to reduce our footprint in line with our minimal impact philosophy
recycling ceramics is not easy so the best option is to buy a good set to last.
ceramics are natural materials and biodegradable but take thousands of years to degrade. it's no coincidence that so many museum artefacts are ceramic and some pottery is over 20,000 years old
it is possible to recycle ceramics by grinding them into an ultra fine dust, then reconstituting the original clay
this will happen as virgin clay sources get more scarce.
but ceramic is resistant to high temperatures and nearly impossible to melt down in a standard recycling facility
this is why they are rarely accepted for recycling
though sometimes facilities that recycle bricks and concrete will recycle ceramics
ceramic particles can be broken apart through mill-grinding and returned to the clay that they were made from
but this is far from economical at the moment
so, reuse and buying a good set that will last is a great way of recycling products
we work with our manufacturers to ensure that materials are recycled during the production process and to use the sustainable production techniques above
what else can we do?
